The Bermuda Insurance Institute Awards

Location: The Fairmont Hamilton Princess, Bermuda

Over the last year the financial world has been gradually recovering from some of the most turbulent times in its history. Nonetheless through all the drama Bermuda's (re)insurance industry has shown true resilience and has continued to thrive, with many companies posting record breaking profits for 2009.

The Bermuda Insurance Institute is the beating heart of this dynamic industry. From its earliest days the organisation has been ensuring that the island's (re)insurance expertise remains ready to contend with whatever challenges are thrown at it.

Although the BII itself was formed in 1984, its roots go much further back than that, to 1970 when 12 of the island's insurers joined forces to form the Bermuda Insurance Diploma Association (BIDA).

Fast forward to today and in addition to an ever-shifting risk landscape, regulatory changes stemming from the financial crisis, as well as the introduction of the Solvency II Directive in Europe, are just a few of the many issues demanding Bermuda companies' attention.

In such a rapidly changing world, the work of the BII will surely continue to be integral in providing the skills and knowledge for the industry leaders of today and tomorrow.

Now in their 12th year the BII Awards are a crowning moment in Bermuda's (re)insurance calendar.

The success stories of this year's award recipients, David Ezekiel, Mike McGavick and Kirsten Faria, are inspirational - not just for new entrants to the market but also for seasoned industry veterans.

The Review and Insurance Day would like to offer our congratulations to all the winners, chosen not only for their achievements over the past year but also during their careers to date.

The BII and the industry salute you.
