Hannover Re had two reasons to celebrate at the 15th annual Worldwide Reinsurance Awards, which were held at the Dorchester hotel in London. The German reinsurer scooped the top accolade at the prestigious awards ceremony, picking up the coveted Reinsurance Company of the Year gong for the fourth time. CEO Wilhelm Zeller was also honoured by the judging panel as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award. Meanwhile Scor's CEO Denis Kessler was crowned Industry Personality of the Year for overseeing the remarkable turnaround of the French reinsurer's fortunes.
The awards have been the only ones internationally recognised by the reinsurance industry since their inception and more than 350 senior insurance and reinsurance executives attended the presentation, which was hosted by The Review editor, Greg Dobie. Recipients of the Worldwide Reinsurance Awards are chosen from entries taken from around the world which are then adjudicated by a distinguished panel of industry chief executives.
Other winners on the evening included Guy Carpenter's i-aXs development team for Reinsurance Broking Team of the Year; Swiss Re for Life Reinsurance Company of the Year; Lloyd's Reinsurance Company China for Company Launch of the Year; Dowling & Partners for Analyst/Researcher of the Year; Gino Smith of XL Re for Future Industry Leader; the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility for Re/Insurance Initiative of the Year; and Swiss Re Capital Markets for Professional Service Provider of the Year.
